What is Nose Reconstruction?
Nose reconstruction is performed due to congenital problems that cause tissue loss in the nose, skin cancers, burns, accidents that cause damage to the cartilage, various injuries or burns, and deformity required by partial or total tissue loss.
Nose reconstruction, which is a subject of plastic surgery, can be applied due to health and aesthetic concerns of the person. Repair is performed according to the shape and structure of the old tissue. If a small repair is required, the nose’s own tissue is utilized, and if a larger repair is required, forehead and cheek skin is utilized.

In Which Situations and Who Needs Nose Reconstruction?
One of the most common conditions that require nasal reconstruction is tissue loss as a result of the removal of skin tumors on the nose. The nose, which is frequently exposed to the sun with its protruding structure, is one of the places where skin cancers are frequently seen.
The nose is also a target in cases such as traffic accidents. Therefore, accidents also cause loss of nasal tissues.
Nasal repair can also be caused by congenital causes. The fact that the person is born with congenital nasal tissue loss has made nasal reconstruction mandatory. Although it is similar to rhinoplasty, rhinoplasty is performed with more aesthetic concerns, while health concerns are more prominent in nasal reconstruction.
Nose Reconstruction Surgery and Recovery Process
Nose reconstruction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Local anesthesia can also be used instead of general anesthesia in case of minor tissue loss. The duration of surgery varies between 1 and 5 hours depending on the loss of nasal tissues.
After the surgery, the patient may be advised to rest in the hospital for two to three days. Special silicone tampons can be placed inside the nose, and it may take 2 to 3 weeks for these tampons to come out. If deemed necessary, a second nasal reconstruction operation can be performed one month later.
