What is Closed Rhinoplasty?

One of the most preferred rhinoplasty surgeries performed with different methods with the developing technology is closed nose surgery. In this surgery performed for aesthetic or health concerns, all incisions are made through the nostrils. Closed nose surgery, which is performed by intervening in the nose with thin incisions made through the nose, is preferred for reasons such as no possibility of scarring after closed nose surgery, having natural looking noses, having a very short and comfortable process after surgery and after surgery.

The absence of postoperative stitches has also led to the birth of the definition of scarless rhinoplasty. However, it is a difficult surgery due to the difficulty of doctors when intervening in the nose closed. Therefore, it is one of the points to be considered that the doctor who will perform closed nose surgery is experienced and an expert in his field.

Advantages of Closed Nose Surgery

– Since the incision is made through the nose in closed nose surgery, the soft tissue and skin inside the nose are not damaged.

– Since the scar is inside the nose, there is no scar on the outside.

– As a result of the small amount of nerves in the cut area, less numbness is felt as a result of the surgery.

– With closed nose surgery, the tip of the nose is better supported.

– The swelling that occurs compared to open nose surgery is less and goes down in a short time.

– The process after closed nose surgery is more painless, comfortable and the recovery period is shorter than other nose surgeries.

– The duration of closed nose surgery is also shorter than open nose surgery.

Who Can Have Closed Nose Surgery?

Closed nose surgery can be applied to people who do not like the appearance of their nose, who have nose disorders after various traumas and who have health problems. Your own doctor will be the authorized person to decide whether or not to have this surgery. In general, it can be applied from the age of 18 when bone development is completed, but this age limit can be lowered if there is severe difficulty in breathing.

How is Closed Nose Surgery Performed?

Closed nose surgery is a surgery in which all incisions are made through the nose. Therefore, there are no stitch marks as in open nose surgery. Closed nose surgeries are usually performed under general anesthesia and take approximately two to three hours.

After closed nose surgery, which is one of the most preferred surgeries of aesthetic surgery, the patient stays in the hospital for one night. While swelling on the face is normal, less bruising is seen compared to open nose surgery. The plaster defined as thermoplastic sprite is removed on the seventh or eighth day. The tampons placed inside the nose are removed in three to four days. In 11 to 12 days, it may seem as if there has been no surgery, but the full recovery period is 6 months.

Process After Closed Nose Surgery

In closed nose surgery, the patient may remain under observation for a day due to general anesthesia. Silicone splints and protective bands are placed on the patient’s nose to reduce bleeding and are removed after two to three days. Since these splints are breathable, patients are prevented from having problems while breathing. With the increased use of splints and protective bands, the use of plaster has decreased and the comfort of patients after surgery has increased. In this surgery, aesthetic stitches are placed in the nose of the patients and these stitches do not need to be removed because the stitches dissolve spontaneously. Patients should take a bath at least three days after closed nose surgery. Edema and swelling in the first 48 hours is normal and will resolve spontaneously in a short time. Patients can return to their daily lives within a week or ten days.

During the first week of the operation, it is recommended that the patient sleep with his/her head elevated. It is even recommended to use two pillows. The recovery period is approximately six weeks. Heavy sports are not recommended for two months after surgery. Avoiding the sun’s rays and using a hat instead of the sun should be preferred.
